6 Important Factors for Diet Plan Success

As the weight loss industry becomes increasingly prosperous more and more diet plans have become available. The problem is that a lot of these diet plans are complete nonsense and do not work at all. Sure, some diet plans are effective but do you really want to waste your time and money trying to find the right one? No, me neither! That is why in this article I have done the hard work for you and listed 6 criteria that should be part of any successful diet plan.

1) Honesty
Many diet plans are full of outrageous claims such as "rub this gel on your stomach and watch the fat melt away". However, can you really trust a diet plan which makes such unrealistic claims? Losing weight is not easy and any diet plan which argues otherwise is likely to be fraudulent and ineffective. Try to look for diet plans which make more honest claims such as "lose 10 pounds in one month" as these are likely to be the ones that really work.

2) Evidence
If a diet plan really is effective then there should be some clinical evidence which says so. Although clinical trials are not 100% foolproof (they may be sponsored by the diet plan company or the results may have been presented selectively to make the diet plan look more favourable) they are a good indicator of a diet plan's effectiveness. By looking for diet plans which have been scientifically tested you are more likely to find one that works for you.

3) No Forbidden Foods
When a food is forbidden it becomes all the more tempting. This usually leads to you craving the food to such an extent that you binge eat. For example, lets say your favourite food is cookies but your diet plan has banned them. You manage to resist for two weeks but then you give in and eat a full pack. The end result is that you consume too many calories and sabotage all your good efforts on the diet plan. To avoid this you should look for diet plans which restrict the foods you eat but still let you treat yourself from time to time.

4) No Side Effects
Even if a diet plan helps you lose weight in a way that works for you, you do not want to be subjected to any unpleasant side effects. For example, going on the Atkins diet has been associated with bad breath, constipation and nausea. Some health professionals even believe the diet can cause more serious health risks such as heart disease and osteoporosis. Therefore, make sure you research any diet plan you choose to ensure that there are no unpleasant side effects associated with it.

5) No Calorie Counting
Any good diet plan will require you to have a general understanding of calories and the amount you should be consuming each day. However, if you have to count every single calorie that you take in every single day you will quickly become discouraged. The most successful diet plans will teach you to eat healthily and in time you will learn to reduce your daily caloric intake without counting every individual calorie.

6) Affordability
Even if a diet plan fulfills all the above criteria it will not be a success unless you can afford it. Some diet plans require you to purchase special meals to participate. However, these meals are usually expensive and can quickly burn a hole in your wallet. I recommend that you choose a diet plan which does not require you to buy any special foods and is therefore affordable on almost any budget.

Successful diet plans should help you lose weight and make this process as easy and manageable as possible. They should be honest, unrestrictive, proven and affordable. When choosing a diet plan make sure it matches all the above criteria or else you could find yourself disappointed with the results.

The 4 Signs Of Water Retention

If you are a woman you have probably had it at one time or another. It makes you feel bloated and you probably are. This is sometimes what is more commonly referred to as water weight gain or water retention. In many women it can come and go with the menstrual cycles each month and is really nothing to be alarmed about. Then there are other times when it could be a sign of something more serious and this happens with men as well as women.

When a female goes through her regular monthly cycle, water weight gain might show up a week or so prior to beginning her monthly flow. This can be largely due to the fluctuation in hormone levels. While this is going on there could be a rise in estrogen levels which can cause aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone that can cause the kidneys to retain water and it can commonly collect in the abdomen and breasts and cause swelling and tenderness. It is not unusual for some women to gain a few pounds during this time of the month.

There are other times when water weight gain is not a normal occurrence. Water retention can also cause swelling in the legs, feet, and fingers along with the breasts and abdomen. Pregnant women often experience swelling in these areas, but when it comes on suddenly and is abnormal swelling, they should see the doctor as soon as possible. The three things that cause water retention are kidneys, sodium, and hormones.

Here are a few signs that you could be retaining water:

1. If your socks leave a ring around your leg it can be caused by water.
2. When you can not remove your rings because your fingers are swollen.
3. When you have a problem getting your pants zipper up and down all of a sudden.
4. When you gain several pounds in just a day or so.

Having a diet that is high in sodium can cause water retention many times because salt will make you drink more fluids. Steroid medications can also cause puffiness because they can cause your kidneys to hold more sodium even if you do not over indulge in salt. Estrogen replacement hormones can cause water retention in post menopausal women. These might be things you should discuss with your doctor if they are uncomfortable or happen frequently.

You should always contact your doctor if your skin stays swelled for a long period of time or if you poke yourself with your finger and it leaves an indentation mark, it could be signaling a problem with some vital organ like the kidneys, thyroid, liver, or your heart. Do not mistake what you think is a simple common problem for something that could be much more serious.

The Secret Benefits of Colon Cleansing

Colon cleansing has many benefits. Today we will focus on the top 3 benefits you must know about to start a cleansing program sooner rather than later. If you wait you only increase the likelihood of developing colon cancer.

Cancers of the colon are being found in an increasing number each day. This often occurs due to the fact that patients like you go to the doctor and seek advice when it is almost to late. The first sign of trouble comes when you get indigestion to frequently. Or if you continue to feel bloated and crampy rather than going to the restroom and feeling relieved from elimination.

People that are overweight have reportedly lost up to 20 pounds from going on a colon cleanse. While the majority 57% of American women struggle with losing a few pounds (10 is the magic number) some people that go on a cleansing have exceeded their weight loss goal by 10 pounds. This is not the REAL goal of colon cleansing but it is something most of you would love to experience. Right? So, that in itself if sufficient for many people to try to go on a good cleansing routine. This is something that not one in a hundred people knew about before reading this article.

Colon cleansing continues to avoid the scrutiny of the U.S. Food And Drug Administration. This is the governing and regulatory body responsible for pharmaceutical drug reviews and approvals and anything that pertains to the health and safety of the U.S. citizens.

Colon cleansing has not obtained an endorsement from them. But there are of course many anecdotal reviews of these products. With the cost of "modern health care" isn't it about time to take control of your health. You easily start by eating a balanced diet. The diet should be rich in grains, cereals, fiber and very green foods. You won't need to find the right drink during a colon cleanse. The answer to that is H20. Water continues to be the best known natural flusher. In fact, water does more than just flush your system. It hydrates and replenishes the loss of fluid that goes with the cleansing programs.

The final benefit in this short series is that of going on a good diet. When the term diet is used don't become irritated with the term because all it really means is what you eat everyday. Some people that really need this healthy habit are constipated chronically. They often eat foods high in saturated fats, oil, sugars, and those are the furthest thing from nature. In order to get the benefits mentioned above you must consume a rich diet of vegetables, grains and other very natural foods. Fruits, nuts and such will work wonders when fighting off the potential of colon cancer.

These are a few of the secret benefits you must know about colon cleansing. But the real bonus is when you make these modifications to your diet and combine that with the cleanse. A small move in what you eat will have a magnified impact on your overall health.

Six Precepts to a Healthy Lifestyle

The buzz around healthy lifestyle is reaching gigantic proportions in the present century. With stress levels bursting high, leading a fit and healthy life tops the priority list of everyone. Workouts, exercise, meditation or yoga are definitely helpful but should be effectively combined with a balanced diet. Intake of nutritious food is a must so as to ward off any nutritional deficiency. Besides, one also has to be selective about the kinds of food to be consumed. Given below are some essential precepts to ensure a healthy lifestyle.

a) Drink plenty of water
Since the human body is composed of around 80% of water, it needs to be replenished by this fluid regularly. Drinking at least 16 glasses of water a day not only removes toxins off the body but also keeps it hydrated. Besides, drinking adequate water is a natural way to keep your skin glowing.

b) Avoid junk and processed foods
It's no news that processed and junk foods are a great obstacle to acquiring a healthy body. Processed foods lose their nutrients during the refining process. On the other hand, junk food offers no more than mere starches and unhealthy fats. Processed foods also contain chemicals for improving their texture, smell, flavor, as well as preservation. These foods do taste great but are in no way useful to the body. In fact, research suggests that consumption of processed foods contribute immensely to the ever-increasing obesity rate amongst the people.

c) Check animal protein consumption
Around 80% of the world population love to consume non-vegetarian food. But excessive intake of animal proteins increases uric acid concentration in the blood, thus causing damage to the kidneys. Instead, one can supplement animal proteins with plant and milk proteins. The best way to limit animal protein intake is to consume it just twice or thrice a week. This would ensure an effective balance of dietary amino acids in the body.

d) Consume healthy carbohydrates and fats
Refined starches like white flour or white rice offer no nutritive benefit to the body. Healthy source of carbohydrates refers to the fresh fruits and vegetables like mangoes, apples, grapes, potatoes, etc. These not only contain healthy starches but are also loaded with essential vitamins and minerals. Similarly, avoiding saturated fat is equally important. Our body loves poly unsaturated fats which can be easily derived from nuts, seeds, vegetables, as well as fishes like salmon and tuna.

e) Dietary Supplements
Intake of food- based dietary supplements is definitely helpful but one has to make sure that they are of standard quality. It should be remembered that dietary supplements should be taken along with your daily diet so as to waive any deficiency in your diet. Never try to substitute your regular meals with supplements.

f) Include whole foods in your daily diet
Whole foods don’t mean that they need to be consumed all at once. These foods can be consumed in their raw or natural form as cooking can result in the loss of essential nutrients. Adding fresh cut fruits to your daily meal is a great way to consume the benefits of whole foods.

The above-mentioned tips are simple and easy to follow. Just try to see how they work wonders to escort you on the way to a healthy lifestyle.

Cancer Invaluable facts - Part 1

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumour size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumour destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it need to multiply

THE CORRECT WAY OF EATING FRUITS - Part 1

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not so easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat fruits. Do you know of anyone who hates fruits? Most likely no. Everyone will immediately tell you about the fruits they like very much. The reason why everyone likes fruits is because our bodies crave for it instinctively. The colour, the texture, the aromas and the sweetness all make it very attractive. But I find that most of us tend to think of fruits as a treat e.g. on a hot day - water melon!

But do you know that fruit is an important food to the human being? Remember our ancestors were not meat eaters or seedeaters - they were all fruit eaters. Fruits have the highest water content of any food. In addition, the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, amino acids and fatty acids that a human requires can be derived from fruits. When fruit is consumed correctly, nothing can surpass it. Even for those who want to lose a little weight, the proper consumption of fruit will help. A survey was made and it was found that those who eat fruits more at every meal tend to want to eat less in the next meal.

The reason, being the sugar in the fruit. It was also found that a particular substance in some fruits could cut the risk of heart disease or heart attack. The substance protects the heart by preventing the blood from becoming too thick and plugging up the arteries. So fruit is cleansing!

Fruit requires less energy to be digested than any other food. Everything consumed by the human body eventually breaks down in the system and is transformed into glucose, fructose, amino acids etc. The brain cannot function on anything except glucose. Fruit is glucose in the body.

Its digestion, absorption and assimilation requires only a short time, rather than to break down food like chicken, mutton etc. Other foods spend about 1-4 hours in the stomach! Fruits do not digest in the stomach. Most fruits are predigested except for bananas, dates and dried fruits. The pass through the stomach in twenty to thirty minutes as if going through a tunnel. They break down and release their life giving nutrients in the intestines.

Ginkgo: the Herb to aid the Brain

Ginkgo: the Herb to aid the Brain

Ginkgo Biloba has been used in traditional medicine to treat circulatory disorders and enhance memory.

Ginkgo is perhaps the most widely currently used herbal treatment aimed at augmenting cognitive functions--that is, improving memory, learning, alertness, mood and so on. Germany recently approved the extract for treating dementia.

Modern studies have also demonstrated the significant effect that Ginkgo biloba has on the cardiovascular system, relaxing blood vessels, acting as a circulatory stimulant and anti-inflammatory. One of the most important active ingredients, ginkgolide, has been clinically shown to be just as effective as standard pharmaceutical drugs in treating irregular heart beats. Improving blood flow throughout the body, Ginkgo biloba can also reduce blood 'stickiness', which lowers the risk of blood clots.

Studies have showed that the Alzheimer's patients who received ginkgo performed better on various cognitive tests than did patients who received a placebo. Improvements were evident in standardized tests measuring attention, short-term memory and reaction time; the average extent of improvement resulting from ginkgo treatment was 10 to 20 percent

It was reported that ginkgo's effect was comparable to that of the drug donepezil, which is currently the pharmaceutical drug of choice for the treatment of Alzheimer's.

A large clinical trial of ginkgo with more than 3,000 volunteers is being carried out by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine . The aim is to see if the herb prevents the onset of dementia and, specifically, Alzheimer's disease; whether it slows slows cognitive decline and functional disability (for example, inability to prepare meals); reduces the incidence of cardiovascular disease; and decreases the rate of premature death.

NCCAM is also studying Ginkgo as possible treatment sfor asthma, symptoms of multiple sclerosis, vascular function (intermittent claudication), cognitive decline, sexual dysfunction due to antidepressants, and insulin resistance. NCCAM is also looking at potential interactions between ginkgo and prescription drugs.

In a study in France a small group of elderly people with mild, age-related memory impairment were given a fairly high dose of Ginkgo. An hour after the treatment, the subjects' memories were tested by rapidly presenting short lists of words or drawings and then asking the patients to recall the lists immediately afterward. Their ability to recall the rapidly presented material increased significantly after ingestion of ginkgo.

This finding raises the possibility that short-term, rather than long-term, biological actions provide the basis for ginkgo's reported effects on cognition

Ginkgo should only be taken under the guidance of a knowledgeable medical professional. Taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs, Ginkgo can increase the risk of bleeding. It is also possible that ginkgo might interact with certain psychiatric drugs and with certain drugs that affect blood sugar levels.
