CAP Warns Of Chemical-Laced Fake Chicken Egg
GEORGE TOWN, April 6 (Bernama) -- It looks like an ordinary chicken egg but it is actually an imitation produced from potentially harmful materials.
Slightly bigger in size from an ordinary egg, it does not have the "chalaza" which keeps the yolk in place, according to the Consumer Association of Penang (CAP).
CAP President S.M Mohamed Idris said a consumer had complained to the association that he bought 30 of such eggs at a market in Pulau Tikus here Tuesday.
Investigation carried out by the association found that the imitation egg had its shell made from paraffin wax, gypsum powder and calcium carbonate, while its white and yolk were from nitrium, alganite, alum, gelatine, benzoic acid, calcium chloride, water and food colouring products.
"These chemical products can affect health," he said.
